Why impact windows are a Florida goldmine

Florida Building Code (HVHZ in Miami-Dade and Broward) requires impact-rated openings on practically all new construction and most retrofits. Demand is permanent and only grows.

    What to document

    • NOA (Notice of Acceptance) jobs you've installed
    • Letters from GCs and window dealers
    • Permits and inspections passed (impact)
    • Photos of buck, flashing, install with dates

    From installer to envelope GC

Installer: $50–90k/year. Crew owner: $150–400k/year. As GC offering full envelope (windows + doors + stucco + roof): $500k–2M/year.

Your jobsite experience is already worth gold

King Training is a course taught in Portuguese that takes you from the DBPR application to Pearson VUE approval, even if you've never set foot in a college classroom.

    Frequently asked questions

Does Florida require a license to install impact windows?›

Most counties require a specialty or contractor license. A GC license covers all opening installations and lets you sign full envelope contracts.

Does this experience count for GC?›

Yes, especially when it includes work on new construction and major retrofits with permits and inspections.

Can I keep installing after the GC license?›

Yes, and you should. Margin on impact installs is high; keep them in-house and sub out everything else.

How much can an envelope-focused GC make?›

Year 1: $200–400k. Year 3 with retrofit pipeline (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach): $700k–2M.
